Saving the Time Change

alarm clock

Can you believe it’s already November? Odds are, you’ve noticed that the days are becoming shorter and the sun is starting to rise earlier. In just a few short days on November 6th we’ll be turning the clocks back an hour. While it’s nice to get an extra hour of sleep, it can have a great impact on your body and sleep schedule. Follow these three easy tips to make the most out of the time change so you don’t feel groggy!

  • Ease yourself/children gradually. Do you always find it difficult to adjust to the time change? It’s common to feel sluggish from the time change, so be sure to gradually add in 10-15 extra minutes of sleep a few days leading up to the time change; you’ll adapt much easier.
  • Don’t make adjustments to your schedule. If you set an alarm on the weekends, be sure to adhere to waking up at that time on Sunday, not an hour later. Be sure to eat, exercise and engage in social activities at normal times as well. The slightest adjustment can throw your sleep schedule off.
  • Avoid long naps. Taking advantage of the extra hour of sleep can cause drowsiness throughout the day which can make an afternoon snooze seem especially tempting. If you feel tired from the extra hour of sleep, try going to bed 10-15 minutes earlier instead of napping.

While it may take a few days to completely adjust to the time change, it will happen! For more tips on surviving the end of daylight saving time, contact the friendly staff at Beautyrest. We want you to wake up and be happy!
