Family, Fireworks, and the 4th of July

Give Your Guests a Cool Night’s Sleep

Favorite 4th of July Memories

Think back through your life and identify your top five favorite 4th of July memories. Were you on a boat, floating from one side of the lake to the other, reapplying sunscreen every other hour, taking swim breaks, and eating good food all day? Long after fireworks illuminated the night skies, did you find yourself in bed still feeling the waves rocking the boat? You played hard, but no matter how tired you are, the mattress under you won’t afford you enough relaxation to go to sleep.

Were you at a backyard barbeque with friends and family all day? Did you watch as kids darted around at top speed, zooming through the adults who were talking, laughing, and having a good time? You reconnected with your family and had long conversations about the past year—the ups and the downs. The lingering smell of steaks, hotdogs, and hamburgers still permeated the air. Darkness crept over the sky, and you all settled down in lawn chairs and to watch fireworks in the backyard. Once the fireworks were done and you found yourself in bed, you might have acknowledged, There’s nothing like my own mattress. The mattress in your sister’s guestroom just wasn’t going to cut it. Sleep eluded you that night.

Or were you at a family reunion where you met so many relatives you didn’t know existed who pinched your cheek and told you how much you look like your mom? You ate watermelon and smiled so big your face hurt. When you thought you hit your quota for words for the day, another relative asked you a question, setting you off on yet another story. The buffet-style picnic offered so much variety, you kept going back to eat more. Your belly was full, and you remember thinking, I’ll never eat again. Then come the fireworks, starting at dusk. It’s a huge display, given that everyone had chipped in. Once back at the hotel, you have a hard time sleeping. And it’s not because you aren’t tired. It’s because the mattress is thin and unsupportive. After all that interaction with people and fun energy, you knew you needed to sleep, but you found yourself staring at the ceiling. Maybe I’ll sleep tomorrow night when I get home and have the comfort of my own nice, supportive mattress, you thought.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if in each of those scenarios, if you had gone to bed with a mattress that had cooling technology, support, and the right amount of cushion to help you fall instantly to sleep? Consider your guests this 4th of July. Let’s talk about ways to make sure you’re ready to provide the gift of beauty rest for your out-of-town guests.

Preparing for Out-of-Town Guests

Admittedly, you don’t sleep in your guest rooms. In fact, the 4th of July might be the first holiday you open up the lake house. It’s a worthy investment of time to go through your guest rooms in your home and in your lake house with your guests in mind. After all, a well-rested guest is a happy, healthy guest. Good sleep equals a good, positive mindset. Bad sleep—well, we all know what bed sleep leads to… cranky family. The happier we are, the better quality our visit.

Take a few minutes to go through the rooms. Have you tried sleeping on the mattress for the night? If not, turn off the lights and lie on the mattress as if you were the guest. Consider the following:

  • Would you feel restful on this mattress?
  • Would you sleep well and wake up happy?
  • Is this a supportive, quality mattress? Or has it been cycled through the family through the years?
  • What special features (such as a pillowtop, adjustable base, cooling technology) does the mattress have?
  • Will this mattress make your guest feel like she/he is home away from home?

When you go this extra mile to give your guest the gift of a good night’s sleep, you are rewarding yourself as well. When we are all relaxed and rested, we have a more pleasant visit with our loved ones.

Cool Down When it’s Hot Outside

Don’t underestimate the power of cooling technology after a long, hot day in the sun. Here are a few options to think about as you decide what’s best for your out-of-town family. Check out the following amazing mattresses.

Not only is this particular line of mattresses supportive for you, but they are also made with plastic bottles diverted from the ocean. Support, body-contouring memory foam top, motion control, and advanced cooling features are just a few things you’ll find in these mattresses. Cool names and even cooler mattress technology. The active cooling in them is plant-based. Not to mention the advanced motion isolation, which minimizes the impact of movement from your sleep partner.

Then there is this line of mattresses to consider. How old are your guests? If they are over 40, you might lean this direction. These mattresses relieve pressure, aches, stiffness, pain, and sleep apnea. Not to mention the hottest sleepers can sleep up to ten degrees cooler all night. If you or someone you sleep next to runs hot all night, that ten degrees is a big difference.
